Olugbon Hawau and Mustapha Aishat reports,
The Students’ Union Caretaker Committee (SU-CTC) of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has appealed to the university’s bus service management committee over the increment of transport fare.
This was according to a circular signed by the chairman of the committee, Comr. Abdullahi Sanusi on Thursday, September 21 2023.
Part of the circular read thus: “The above-mentioned association under the leadership of Comr. Abdullahi Sanusi as part of its efforts and commitment to bring succor to the entire Students, it is with great concern that the students Union hereby received a letter from the UDUS BUS SERVICE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE over the increment of the transport fare.
“The students union caretaker committee hereby plead to the management to continue retain the present fare of #100 so as to make life conducive to the entire students, this increment will definitely bring more hardship to the students. Many students would not be able to meet up with the lectures scheduled and some other vital activities because of the increment.”
It added that, “Currently the country is also in recession where many students are only leaving from hand to mouth, it will be unfair if the management embark on such policy, we urge you to retain the price of #100. This is a challenging time because we must be sensitive not to compound this burden on the indigents students.”
