Amana Ride has reduced the fare for its female-only campus shuttle service back to ₦200, the company announced on its official Facebook page, tagging the post “breaking news.”
The reduction follows weeks of criticism after the service raised its fare from ₦200 to ₦300 in July, a change Pen Press UDUS reported drew frustration from female students who said the higher fare undercut the affordability and accessibility the service was built around. At the time, Amana Ride did not respond to Pen Press’s repeated requests for comment on the reason behind the increase.
Salahudeen Iyiola Taye, one of the students Pen Press spoke to during the earlier fare-hike report, said the reduction has made a real difference to her daily budget. “I am so happy that I took an Amana ride yesterday for ₦200. I am really happy about it because it reduced my expenses. You might think ₦100 is nothing, but it is much. I am so happy about the decrease in their price. I am using this medium to thank Amana Ride for the decrease in their price. Jazakumullahu Khair,” she said.
Other students have welcomed the development, saying the reduced fare makes transportation more affordable and may encourage more female students to use the shuttle. Amana Ride has built its reputation on providing a safer and more comfortable transportation option for female students on campus.
The company has not said how long the ₦200 fare will remain in effect, nor has it commented publicly on the reasoning behind either the earlier increase or the reduction. Students are advised to follow Amana Ride’s official social media pages for further updates.
