The Center For Journalism Innovation (CJID) under its Campus Reporter Project, has called on the students of Mass Communication and campus journalists at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto to apply for her upcoming training scheduled to hold at the institution.
According to the released flier by the organization on Thursday, 28th September, 2023, the 4-day training titled “Campus journalism Clinic”, will commence from 16th – 19th of October, 2023 in the UDUS main campus.
The flier also stated the eligibility criteria for the program, which include being a student at UDUS, submission of a 100-word essay on the topic “The Importance of Press in Democracy” and attend the 4-day training if selected.
The promotional flier also highlighted a list of perks to be enjoyed by the selected candidates, including; training by professionals from leading media organizations, presentation of certificate of participation, stipends for participants, post training mentorship among others.
When PEN PRESS reached out to the President of the National Association of Campus Journalists (NACJ, UDUS) believed to have facilitated this program by the CJID, Abdulwasiu Olookoba, expressed his gladness over the possibility of the program after over three years of consistent proposals.
“As the President, I feel fulfilled. If am not mistaking it is more than three years that NACJ has been on the course to bring CJID to our campus, so I am glad this happens while I am still here and as the president. I understand the efforts we (NACJ as a team) made this a reality,” he said.
Also, the Chairman Check and Balance Committee of the NACJ, Isiaq Ibrahim, shared his view to this reporter on this new development, saying that it’ll broaden the campus journalists’ experience in the carrier they have chosen, that is, journalism.
“It is a good and an expecting development. I believe it’ll for sure help the campus journalists in the career they have chosen,” Isiaq said.
The organization however enjoined the female journalists to apply as it provided the application website link and further announced Thursday 5th of October as deadline for the application.
