On the gloomy evening of Thursday, 16 December 2021, Niger thrashed Katsina out of the VC’s Cup football tournament with a 1-0 score margin.

The Northwest state held on to a first-half goal for the remnant of 90 minutes to seal a fine spot in the most remarkable stage of the competition.

Just a day before Katsina’s elimination, Sokoto and Kebbi had slugged it out in intense combat, one which eventually saw Kebbi also lose by a lone goal. The evening of Wednesday, 15 December 2021, screamed of Sokoto sending Kebbi packing after claiming the better part of the 1-0 scoreline.

Katsina and Kebbi, the eliminated teams in the semifinals, will face each other for a third-place playoff to determine who wears the bronze crown of the tournament.

Sokoto and Niger, the winners in the semifinals, have their sights set on the big prize, having secured comfortable spaces in the final. All and sundry await when the tournament’s organizers fix dates for the last showdown of the tourney.

Congrats to Sokoto and Niger. We can’t wait to see you at the final!
