The Approved Letter
On Thursday, 17th August, 2023, the management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto approved the Zabarkano Students’ Association, ZABSA, UDUS Chapter. The association is also registered under the Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Cooperative and Social Responsibility, Sokoto State.
The Zabarkano Students’ Association (ZABSA) is a non-profit association that was formed to promote the interests of Zarma students in Nigeria. The association has been in existence for several years and has chapters in many universities and other tertiary institutions across the country.
The aims and objectives of the Zabarkano Students Association are:
- To create brotherhood among Zarma students.
- To promote Zarma culture and heritage.
- To represent the interests of Zarma students to the government and other organizations.
- The association offers tutoring, study groups, and other resources to help students succeed academically.
- The association organizes volunteer opportunities to help the local community.
- Financial assistance to the members.
- Cultural events and activities.
The association is open to all Zarma students who are enrolled in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Members Share Testimonies
“I joined the Zabarkano Students’ Association because I wanted to meet other Zarma students and learn more about my culture. The association has helped me to make new friends, learn about my heritage, and get involved in the Zarma community on campus,” said Musa Mariam, a 100-level student of Accounting.
Another 100-level student and member From the Faculty of Law, Abdulsalam Abubakar said: “The Zabarkano Students’ Association has been a great support system for me since I started my University journey. The members are always willing to help each other out, and they have made me feel welcomed and supported. I am so glad that I joined the association”.
“The Zabarkano Students Association has helped me to become more involved on campus. I have participated in several events organized by the association, and I have met many interesting people. I am grateful for the opportunities that the association has provided me,” said Abubakar Aisha Ishaq, a 300-level student of Applied Chemistry and vice president of the association.
Jabir Idris, a 200-level MBBS student and member of the association also testified that the Zabarkano Students Association is more than just a student organization.
“It is a family. The members are always there for each other, no matter what. I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing group of people,” he said.
“The Zabarkano Students’ Association has made my college experience so much richer. I have made lifelong friends, learned about my culture, and gotten involved in the Zarma community on campus. I am so glad that I joined the association,” testimony from Abdullahi Ibrahim, a 300-level Political science student, UDUS.
President Reacts
The president of the Zabarkano Students Association also expressed his pleasure, saying that he was pleased to announce that the association has been approved by Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as a branch.
“This is a significant milestone for the association, and it will allow us to better serve the needs of Zarma students at the university. Special thanks to our staff adviser, Dr Ango Adamu Kamba, current and former members, and executive members of the association,” he said.
He also took the opportunity to welcome any Zarma student at the university who are not yet member of the association.
“We are a friendly and welcoming organization, and we would love to have you join us,” he encouraged.
