On the 26th of May, 2024, the management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto matriculated new students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
A cursory look at the university bulletin titled: UDUS NEWS BULLETIN issued in May 2024, PEN PRESS discovered that the university matriculated 3,500 students for the 2023/2024 academic year with the breakdown of the admitted students given by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawal Suleiman Bilbis.
Also, a review of the data gathered by this reporter shows that UDUS admitted 5,962 students for the 2022/2023 academic session (the current 200-level students). Going by this, PEN PRESS reviews and analyzes the number of students admitted by each faculty for both academic sessions.
The Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences which encompasses 7 courses led the pack last session with the total number of 1,421 admitted students. However, the faculty has 724 students admitted for the ongoing session.
Behind it is the faculty of Education and Extension Services (21 units under it) with 1,015 students matriculated last session. However, the faculty has 467 students who matriculated this session.
The College of Health Sciences which has 8 programmes under it pulled a total number of 625 students in the 2022/2023 academic session but 610 students in the following session.
Trailing behind them was the faculty of Agriculture which admitted 549 and 227 students for the previous and current session respectively.
The faculty of Physical and Computing Science with 5 programmes under it has 523 students matriculated for the 2022/2023 academic session and 316 students matriculated for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The faculty of Social Science had 460 students admitted last session and 282 students this session. Also, is the faculty of Arts with 316 students admitted for the 2022/2023 academic session and 116 students matriculated for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The faculty of Management Sciences had 271 students matriculated last session and 196 students matriculated this session. The Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies had 249 students admitted last session and 126 students admitted this session.
The faculty of Law had 122 students admitted last session and 80 students this session. While the faculty of Veterinary Medicine had 113 students admitted last session and 78 students admitted this session, the faculty of Pharmaceutical Science had 197 students admitted in the previous session and 116 students admitted this session.
While the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design (FEED) stepped up from 101 students admitted last session to 112 students admitted this session.
