The most peaceful University in Nigeria in Nigeria, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, has been rated the third position in the North West by the National Universities Commission.
This was stated by the Vice-Chairman SU caretaker committee of the school, Fatimah AbdulAzeez, commending the UDUS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis at the recently concluded Matriculation Ceremony held for the newly admitted students on Monday 20, 2021 at the University Convocation theater.
In a speech given by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawal Sulaimon Bilbis, at the Matriculation Ceremony.
He said: “At this juncture, I wish to state that just last week from Monday 13 to Friday 17 December the NUC conducted its Nationwide 2021 accreditation exercise for undergraduate programmes in the University.
“The school hosted 11 teams comprising of about 50 members who were sent by the NUC to assess twelve departments of the undergraduate programmes. The Programmes visited include English, Linguistics, Literature In English, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Common and Islamic Law, Medicine, and Surgery, Pharmacy, Botany, Zoology, Geography, and Veterinary Medicine.
The Vice-Chancellor also reinstated his optimism of a better outcome of the exercise and believed it would be excellent and rewarding to the University.
Prof. Lawal Suleiman Bilbis in his remark on the matriculation ceremony used the medium to register his sincere appreciation to the staff members, both the teaching and the non-teaching ones, towards their commitment in achieving the goal of the University and in particular, during the accreditation visit of the NUC.
He added that the commitment of the staff and students are commendable as they have individually and collectively demonstrated a high sense of responsibility and dedication.
The Vice-Chancellor also noted that 37 of 38 undergraduate programmes had full accreditation status and that only one is having an Interim Accreditation Status.
“As at 2019 in the area of Accreditation exercise for both National Universities Commission (NUC) and professional bodies, the performance of the University has been commendably impressive with over 98% of the Programmes have full accreditation and four Postgraduates Programmes visited during the period also had full accreditation status,” he disclosed.
He, however, implored the students to be of good character and morals as the University doesn’t only award her certificate in learning alone, but also in character.
