The new students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), who are admitted in the year 2023/2024 are left in morosity as their General Studies (GST) Results are yet to be reflected on their students portal.
GST was sometimes a written based assessment for all the students irrespective of their course of study before it was later changed to Computer Based Test (CBT). The division is known for its timely release of the students’ results. However, the recent delay in releasing the 100-level students’ results left many newly admitted students fuming their frustration.
Students Lament
When Abdulrafiu Opeyemi, a 100-level student from the department of physiotherapy finished his first semester examination, he couldn’t contain his eagerness to see his results. Opeyemi believed he would be motivated more when he saw his score. But little did he know that his hope would be a pipe dream as second semester results are also yet to be released.
“It is a little bit tiring when we are preparing for second semester examinations and none of our results are displayed on our portals except for two courses,” he expressed.
Not knowing how the second semester examination would turn out, Abdulrafiu continued reading and preparing for the second semester exams without knowing the same fate awaiting him. “When it was time to see our second semester results and we didn’t see it again, I was very angry.”
Audu Kuburat Orengwu , also a 100-level student from the department of Geology, can’t express how eager she was while expecting her results. If not for anything, for the sake of knowing how she could buckle down again in the next examination.
“I am so much anticipating to see the results of my hardwork in no time and pray my hope will not be dashed,” Kuburat said.
Corroborating what Abdulrafiu said is the lamentation of Abdulmumeen Abdulwarith, a 100-level student of Veterinary Medicine who said whenever the thought that he hasn’t seen his results strikes his mind, he feels reluctant to study again.
“Seriously speaking, I am eager and can’t wait to see my result, because sometimes results motivate students not to relent and work harder than before. It’s very obvious that students can’t be happy doing examinations without results,” Abdulmumeen retorted.
The Platform is Giving us Tough time — GST Exam Officer
While speaking with Dr Sadat Ibn Adam, GST Exam Officer, he said “Students know it has been the protocol of the GST Division that they release their result a week after the examination, a lot of effort has been put into place to see their results is being uploaded.”
Dr. Sadat explained that, “ the students that are admitted for the 2023/2024 academic session are facing these challenges because a new platform was designed for their own results and the platform is giving us a tough time, and all measures taken were just abortive.
One of the problems we are facing is that we cannot upload all the results at once like we always do. We can only upload the results of 20 students out of over 2,000. Sometimes if we try to upload it, it might display “not uploaded” or “uploading is not successful.”
He said that when the GST Division reached out to the ICT Center, they said they are working tirelessly in resolving the issues. If it were to be the old platform, with just one click everyone would see his or her result. It is a technical issue for every student and our tradition is not to neglect our students.
Dr sadat pleaded that they are going to upload the results once the issues has been resolved, “there supposed to be an alternative but at the initial stage they have disable all newly admitted students from the old platform, even though we try many times to use it for them it was to no avail, it has automatically been programmed not to appear on the old platform.”
He further said that he will draw the director’s attention to it and tell him about the challenges and see what he can help come up with.
“I will reach out to my deputy examination officer first to know how far he has gone, so that we can discuss the issue at the management level.” he concluded.
